Studies have shown that one out of every five drivers are still using their mobile phones behind the wheel. Those who work in driving jobs or even in driving recruitment will understand how severe the penalties are for those who are seen on their phone. It is said that over 7 million motorists are still flouting the law even though this could lead to them getting their license disqualified. The government have doubled the amount of penalty you get if you are caught on your phone as well, meaning that it is now an automatic 6 points.
The most common way that drivers break the law is by checking their phone when they have an incoming message. Over 20% of drivers have admitted to doing this and one out of every seven drivers have stated that they have spoken on the phone while driving. Even though this is the case, only three out of four drivers were actually aware of the penalties.
O
n top of that, two thirds of drivers would support an even harsher fine, but there is no telling whether or not this would happen. It should be noted that over 90% of drivers ignore their phones when they are driving at speed. The results from the new figures have revealed that a number of people have been found guilty of using their phone at the wheel and that this could cause a serious accident. Studies show that the number of accidents that happen on the road as the result of people using their phones has also increased and this is something that does need to be stopped. Only time will tell if these new measures stop people from driving while on the phone.
